I would like to mention some things about Libro.fm:
1. You can choose which specific indie bookstore you would like to support when you create an account.
2. Libro also has credits, which are $15 each. If you sign up for a new monthly membership, you get two bonus credits. But you can buy credits without an active subscription. (Not all titles are available to buy with credits, but all the ‘Emma M. Lion’ books are. In my experience, over 95% of titles on Libro can be bought with credits.)
3. Audiobooks from Libro are DRM free, and (to my knowledge) is the only digital audiobook retailer that is DRM free.
For those unaware, audiobooks—as well as eBooks—from retailers like Audible or Barnes & Noble have Digital Rights Management (DRM) restrictions. This means that they retain the rights to the audiobooks and can revoke your access to them at any time if they so choose, even though they make it appear as if you “purchased” them. Plus you can only access the titles you buy through their proprietary platform(s).
Libro is DRM free, which means that you actually own the audiobook. You can access your purchases through their free app, but you can also download the actual audio files from their website and listen to them wherever you like—even share them with someone else. This means that even if a title for some reason in the future is no longer available to buy on Libro, you still own the book you purchased and have access to it.
I’ve personally been using Libro for a couple of years and will never be going back to anything else. Not only do you actually own the thing you purchase, you get to support indie bookstores, with the added bonus of supporting a company that is 100% employee owned and a Social Purpose Corporation, which means they pursue social justice initiatives—such as fighting book bans—even if it’s in conflict with the corporation’s financial interests.
I'm a collection development public librarian and can confirm they are LIVE in Overdrive! I mean, I wish they weren't $85, but I will sacrifice all of my James Patterson digital copies for Emma, Hawkes, Pierce, and Islington.
What a gift to have 3 emails in one week! Please break your promise in the future and send as many as you like. So excited for the audio books as I've started re-reading the series and found so many more insights into these characters. Guessing listening to the audiobooks will be equally rewarding :)
Oh man!!!! I'm not even a huge fan of audiobooks and I've practically been foaming at the mouth to get my hands (ears?!) on these since I read the talent release yesterday. And NOW?!?! with the BookBox announcement?!!? Well. Consider me SOLD. I'm in! So fun!! 😍
This will be great! Excited to listen, like the rest of your fans! I check Substack everyday for your posts! Emma is my drug of choice! Hearing or reading about her makes me so happy. 😊
Oh no! I'm not an audiobook person AT ALL - my brain doesn't work that way - but I feel like I'm going to have to preorder just to get in on the book box raffles 🤣

I’ve yet to dive into the world of audiobooks, but I suspect that will be changing August 14th. 👏🏽✨
