Julius Caesar would be amazing, but I don’t know that I have the fortitude necessary to acquire the ticket!

I'm drawing a blank. Who is Edward Norriage??

Expand full comment
Beth Brower's avatar

Lol! He is a barely mentioned character. In the books he was found wearing Mrs. Killorhan's wig. In the Gazette he's referenced a time or two.

Ha! Thank you! That's probably why I couldn't think of him!

5. (C) Tea with Mary and Emma - hilarious!

6. Latin Phrases for the Unrepentant - I'm learning Latin with my girls right now and it's so much fun. Essays is tempting though and Jane is already a fave!

8. (C) Placing it between both hands, let it slip into the water.

9. (E) The Roman or (b) Saffronia

10. (A) Pierce for Emma. Has no one else gotten big brother vibes from Islington?

Yes! I absolutely sense big brother vibes from Islington. I love that he and Hawkes had close connections with Emma’s father.

I also love the close connections to Declan and have enjoyed reading snippets in the Gazette! I know either Hawkes or Islington's relationships to Emma could change in the future but right now I really enjoy them as supporting her and watching out for her.

My family and I thoroughly loved your visit, Beth! Thank you so much for coming to the Northwest!

I'm coming late to the party, but here are my replies --

1. Whereabouts Lane

2. The Reed & Rite, with a good perusal of the Keep

3. Islington's library

4. The streets of St. Crispian's

5. Tea at Lapis Lazuli with Mary and Emma, 2nd choice Agnes in the kitchen

6. Shakespeare's Comedies!!! Who could resist Declan Lion's illustrations?!!! We recently viewed an art exhibit from his time period -- it makes me wonder what art style he and Saffronia painted with? An early impressionist?

7. All of them!!! (I'm looking forward to whatever May Day will bring!) If I had to choose just one -- I love all things Christmas.

8. Both hands, slipping into the water while counting my blessings.

9. The Roman. A chat with Lady Trewartha would also be pretty cool!

10. For myself -- Hawkes, Plithco Wright, or Professor Fletcher, especially if he taught math or science.

For Emma -- I'm looking forward to seeing how things turn out for her! My inclination (at present) is Pierce. Hawkes and Islington are wonderful, but her relationships with them have a sibling quality. While she writes that they look handsome, I haven't picked up any attraction between them, whereas her attraction to Pierce and was evident as soon as he arrived, even before she had let Maxwell go. I suspect that Pierce will first experience a lot more healing (St. Crispian's style).

My expectation and hope is that Pierce will also experience some healing! Although I expect all of them will, Hawkes and Islington specifically.

9. E

10. Three-way tie between C, D, E with a slight lean towards E. I just feel like Hawkes really sees Emma.

I’m trying to “like” all of the responses but it only lets me reply. So many wonderful people on here, I guess we are Beth’s Tribe?

Even talking about some of these answers feels like it might alter the outcome - please no, loving that the story will stretch out for years and we can try to savor and not gobble it, ha!

Whereabouts Lane

The R&R (the missing items are too fun)

Islington’s library

Primrose Hill

Paper and Pierce

Latin Phrases for the Unrepentant (has me laughing so often)

Christmas

The fountain is private but helping Hawke’s scoop coins is a yes

Tie between Saffronia and The Roman

I have a list of guesses who ends up with whom does anyone else?

I trust Beth will guide us through several scenarios because they all love Emma in some way. Please take your time.🤗💙

But there can at the end only be one set of footsteps on Emma’s stairs and it will be the one who loved her at first sight. Hawkes the Fox

Rest assured, nothing a reader says or writes will ever influence the plot. I already know everything that happens. These questions are simply a fun romp, nothing more. I will never write by committee. My characters would never let me. Lol.

Love the quiz and love the coming announcement! I finished the Imirillia trilogy yesterday and loved it! I was engrossed! Just wondering if you would ever consider writing a short story (in the fashion of the St. Crispian's Gazette) featuring characters from that series, Beth. I miss them already! ❤️

I’ve got Pierce matched with Saffronia too! I have a feeling Arabella and Roland may be wild cards. Do you feel Victoria moving into the neighborhood will turn her into a kindred spirit with Emma and maybe become of interest to Islington?
